Mamata looks for a makeover, moves away from ultra-Left

  • Party leaders say she is aware that in the Lok Sabha polls, she will need the support of urban voters, who seem to have gone against her after the Singur fiasco.

    The CPM is also targeting the Trinamool, terming her stance as anti-industry. Though the Trinamool did well in the panchayat elections, it failed to make an impact in the following municipal elections.

    “The chief minister himself said in a number of rallies that in the coming Lok Sabha elections development and industrialisation will be his mantra. We have to cater to urban voters. Hence, we need to change this growing perception that Mamata Banerjee is anti-industry,” said a senior party leader.
