As the Singur stalemate remained unresolved, Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee met Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi to vent her grievances against the state government.
Banerjee had threatened to start her agitation afresh as the government was not complying with her demands and had “deceived” her.
In her one-hour-twenty-minute meeting, she failed to convince the Governor — mediator between the protestors and the state government on the Singur issue — that the state government betrayed her. On the other hand, the Governor insisted on the state government’s version on the issue.
The Trinamool leader refrained from talking about Tata and the various offers made to the Tata
by the Karnataka and Uttarakhand government. She once again chose to reiterate her old stance that her party wanted both agriculture and industry to survive and prosper together. “We want quick and sure solution to the issue. We hope for the best,” she said.
According to Trinamool sources, it was evident after
Friday’s meeting that Banerjee was entrapped in the situation where very little option was available to manoeuvre.
Earlier, she had hopeed that the Governor would take a U-turn and be on her side.
As the situation unfolded, it was realised that the representatives of some of the key constituents of the 21 party coalition formed by Banerjee for the Singur issue were not present at the meeting.
Leaders like Purnendu Bose also gave the meeting a miss. Banerjee was accompanied by Partha Chatterjee, Dinesh Trivedi and Manik Mukherjee.
