Outlining a series of “failures” of the Mamata Banerjee government,Bhattacharjee called upon people to turn their back on the Trinamool Congress-led government and repose faith in the Left Front for a better Bengal.

Nobody expecting early elections: Karat

Kolkata:Amidst a buzz about early Lok Sabha election triggered by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s comments,CPM general secretary Prakash Karat on Sunday indicated that his party was not in favour of advancement of polls.

“Nobody is expecting early elections,” Karat told reporters at the NSCBI Airport here.

Banerjee had on Friday said she would be happy to see UPA-II last its full term,a day after she claimed that she had information that a political party in Delhi had held a meeting to advance the poll to 2013 and asked her party men to be ready for it.

Asked if Banerjee’s recent comments on the next Lok Sabha elections were with any purpose,Karat said,“I have no idea.” “Let me clear. The half truth was being reported. I would be happy to see UPA-two last its full term,” TMC spokesman and MP Derek O Brien said quoting Banerjee.

O Brien said,”She said that she had heard this (advancing Lok Sabha poll) issue being discussed in Delhi. Now our statement clarified the position.”
