Mamma mia!
Tua figlia, your daughter, is just back from the Grande Apple. Confused Mamma? Well, that’s what the gente, people, call New York. Yes, si. Don’t know if We told you about this, but perhaps it slipped Our mind because we were molto occupato, very preoccupied, over the last few days. In any case, you must have seen tua figlia on televisione because all the telecamera of the mondo, world, were there when we spoke at the United Nations.
Si, Mamma, tua figlia spoke on the same plattaforma as the other top capo, leaders, of the mondo and addressed the Genere Assemblea. We wore a rosa-coloured tanchoi, and everybody paid Us molto complimenti, many compliments! You know how timido dinanzi all’obiettivo, how camera-shy We are, but do We have any choice, Mamma? We have to do these things for the sake of our paese, country, and the Congress partito.
Because of Our sforzo, our effort, the UN has declared Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversario as Non-Violence Day and We told them how they must work together to uphold the Gandhian legacy. Soon We will try and get the UN to respect the memoria of our dear suocera, mother-in-law, and our amato marito, our dearest husband. We have no dubitare, doubt, that this will happen but it may take some tempo, time, because the world needs to discover their speciale essenza, special qualities. We are now completamente, completely, Gandhian. When the gente, people, ask We tell them that We Gandhians are all committed to pace, peace. Must say, though, that sometimes when the BJP idiotas speak, it sometimes provokes a grande, great, violence within Us, but of course we cannot tell the UN Genere Assemblea that, can we? Anyway, so geloso, jealous, was that stupido, Rajnath Singh, presidente of the BJP, that he actually said We should give up the Gandhi nome, name. How dare he even suggirire, suggest, such a thing. Let him stew in his invidia, envy! We are 100 per cento Gandhian and no one can take the Gandhi out of tua Sonia.
New York was splendido, wonderful, because Rahul was with me. You should have seen him, Mamma, so bello, so handsome, so serio, serious, in his formal suit. Always there to give us consiglio, advice, on what we should do or say. They say he is beginning to look like Us, but I see his father, padre, and his noni, grandmother, in his faccia, face. Not just in his faccia, but in his futuro as primo ministro, too. Mamma, you may not know this as yet, but he has been promoted by the Congress partito to be its general secretary. This is a high onore, honour, mamma, and could be the stepping-stone to far higher roles. But We did not suggest his name, Mamma, since We are committed to inner-party democrazia. It was the leader politico, party leaders, that were constantly asking for this elevazione, elevation, and, finally, we had to give in with riluttanza, reluctance. Poor Rahul, he will now have so many responsabilita and we had wanted to protect him from difficile political struggles. But, Mamma, even if We say it Ourselves, India needs the visione and energia of Rahul Gandhi. Priyanka is in perfect accordo, agreement, with Us on this. We believe the tempo has come to make that move to the futuro. How long can India be deprived of world-class talento? Would We not be failing in our responsabilita to the nazione, nation, if We stood in his way?
Now the whole paese, country, is wondering what Our next move will be. Will We go in for mid-term election? If so, when? But we will keep them guessing. These are questione that need serio discussion and the new general secretary and Ourself, the presidenta, will decide (along with the party gente, of course) what we should do next. So it looks like our life will be in one big riunione, meeting, from now on, especially with the big party session later this mese, month.
By the way, guess what was playing in a Broadway teatro in New York? The hit musical, ‘Mamma Mia’. Saw the hoardings and thought of you, Our amato, amato, dearest, dearest mamma!
Ciao for now,
Ti amo,
Sonia
