Man alleges fraud by insurance firm, says signatures were forged

A 70-year-old resident of Sector-12A Panchkula has accused a private insurance company of forging documents and making an insurance policy for his son instead of the Fixed Deposit the complainant had asked to be made in his name.

A 70-year-old resident of Sector-12A Panchkula has accused a private insurance company of forging documents and making an insurance policy for his son instead of the Fixed Deposit (FD) the complainant had asked to be made in his name.

Kuldeep Walia,a retired under-secretary with the Haryana government, alleged that Bajaj Allianz,Sector 32D,had taken a cheque worth Rs 25,000 from him for getting an FD done in his name. Instead, alleged Walia, the company faked the signatures of his son and got an insurance policy done in his name.

“In September 2008,the company offered me to get my Fixed Deposit (FD) done for Rs 25,000 at 12 per cent interest. Two employees of the company,Balwinder Saini and Arun Kumar, came to me and I gave them a cheque of Rs 25,000 along with other documents needed for the FD,” said Walia.

After a few days, said Walia,he received a call from the company stating that on the basis of his FD,they were willing to offer a free insurance policy for his son Sanjay Walia. “I submitted the photographs of my son and told them that he was in Bhiwani and would not be available for his signatures. To my surprise,I later received the insurance papers of my son, with his faked signatures, instead of documents relating to my FD.”

He added,“When I intimated them about the issue, they assured make the rectifications. Another employee of the company,Abheshek, asked me to return the insurance documents and promised that he will send the documents related to my FD. I am,however, yet to receive the FD papers or my money.” After he approached the Sector-14 police station,a case was registered against the company and its employees — Balwinder Singh and Arun Kumar — under Sections 420,467,471 and 120 B of the IPC.

Talking to Newsline,Station House officer of Sector-14 police station Aman Kumar said: “A case was recently registered and notices were issued to the insurance company. We are investigating the issue and the accused will be arrested soon.”
