A man bombed himself to death inside Ara court on Friday, killing a lawyer and injuring two others in the process. The police have not been able to establish the identity of the person as his face was mutilated after the incident.

Police suspect that the bomber may have been mentally unstable. Other theories being put forward are that he may have been a victim of delayed justice and may not have been satisfied with the prolonged court proceedings.

The incident took place around 11.30 in the morning at chamber number one, inside the district court, under Town police station. The unidentified bomber had reportedly tied the bomb with a cloth to his waist. Six lawyers including senior advocate Vinay Tiwari were in the chamber when the medium-intensity bomb exploded. The bomber died on the spot. Advocate Tiwari, who was shifted to Patna Medical College and Hospital, succumbed to his injuries late on Friday night.

The district deputy superintendent of police Rajesh Tiwari told The Indian Express: “We are trying to first establish the identity of the person only then we will get to know the motive behind the incident through his relatives”.

The police said that the incident would be investigated. ADGP Neelamani said all the SPs have been told to deploy forces and frisk people in court.
