  • Following a complaint lodged by the Senior District Magistrate, Patiala, the city police on Thursday arrested two persons for alleged impersonation. One of the arrested posed as a candidate for admission to Government Polytechnic at Thapar under the economically weak category.

In his complaint, SDM Gurmeet Singh claimed that the owner of an iron store in Raikot, Ravi Kumar Gupta, sought admissions for his son Gautam Gupta. With his son not present in the city, Ravi allegedly brought one Manoj Kumar to pose as his son during admissions. “Manoj and Ravi were caught red handed by the SDM and handed over to the police,” said police.

SHO Civil Lines Gurdev Dhaliwal said a case has been registered against the two under Sections 419 and 120-B of the IPC. “We will investigate the role of college officials to ascertain their involvement, if any, in the case,” said Dhaliwal.
