An unidentified man died after he was hit by a Metro train while he was crossing the tracks at Chhattarpur Metro station on Monday.
The man was trying to cross the tracks. He had climbed down the platform when a Metro train was approaching. He lost his balance and his legs got entangled between the tracks and the platform slab. The train driver applied the brakes but it was too late, an official said.
A Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) official said the incident took place around 6 pm.
A DMRC official said: The man has been charged under Section 64 of DMRC O&M Act for trespassing or crossing Metro tracks. It is a punishable offence and a penalty of Rs 250 has been imposed.
Station staff members took the man,who was possibly in his forties,to AIIMS Trauma Centre where he succumbed to injuries. His head sustained severe injuries, an official said.
A Metro token to travel from Chhattarpur station to INA station and and some papers were found on him.
Police were analysing the CCTV footage to ascertain the sequence of events. They are also trying to identify the man,a police officer said.
