The Economic Offences Wing of the Chandigarh Police has booked a Delhi trader for duping a city resident from whom he had allegedly taken Rs 41 lakh on the pretext of providing his two sons admissions to MBBS course in foreign medical colleges.
Dr Palas Ram Sharma of Sector 34 has alleged in his complaint that he had approached Piyush Bharat Saini for his sons admission to medical institutes after reading an advertisement in a leading newspaper.
He told the police that Saini,who runs business from Old Rajinder Nagar in New Delhi,had claimed in the advertisement that he could arrange for admissions to MBBS course in foreign medical colleges.
Sharma further said in his complaint that when he contacted Saini,he asked him to come to Delhi.
A police official in the EPOW said the accused had flaunted his contacts in medical colleges in Delhi ,Mumbai and Jaipur,assuring admissions in those colleges too. On July 12,2009,the accused took Rs 15 lakh from the complainant through one of his agents in Chandigarh.
The official added the accused then took another payment of Rs 26 lakh on July 18 on the plea that more money was required to process the case. The complaint on the other had said that he arranged for the amount by great difficulty and had to sell one his properties and against loans taken from banks. Both the times,the money was allegedly handed over to one Ashok Kumar. However,the accused failed to provide admissions to his sons and did not return the money either,alleged Sharma.
The police have booked Saini under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code. The police have sent a team to Delhi to nab the accused.
