Man held for cutting off girl’s nose

Gorakhpur police on Wednesday arrested 21-year-old Sonu Yadav for allegedly cutting off the nose of a girl in Uruwa Bazaar locality yesterday. The police is searching for Sonu's friend, the other accused involved in the crime. Uruwa Bazaar Station Officer Chotte Lal said Sonu told them that he defaced the girl because she did not respond to his overtures over the last many years. He said the statement of the girl has not been recorded. The 19-year-old girl, who is a BA third year student, was attacked while going home after attending classes at a coaching institute. Sonu chopped off her nose while his friend held her hands. The victim, who was admitted at Baba Raghav Das Medical College, is being brought to Lucknow as the doctors have referred her to King George's Medical College.

HC seeks report on probe into Khurshid trust

Lucknow: The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court on Wednesday sought a report from the Economic Offences wing of Uttar Pradesh police on the investigation into alleged irregularities in Dr Zakir Hussain Memorial Trust run by Union Minister Salman Khurshid and his wife Louise. The order was passed by a bench of Justice Uma Nath Singh and Justice Satish Chandra on a PIL seeking a direction for lodging of an FIR and also monitoring by the court in the case of the trust run by Khurshid and his wife.
