Unable to cope with the indebtedness of her husband,a middle-aged woman reportedly shot herself dead with her husbands revolver at her apartment in the Satellite area on Sunday morning.
Dhruv Parni (46) was staying at Asavari Apartments with her husband Surendra Amulakchandra, who is into real estate business. Dhruv reportedly shot herself twice in the chest and once in the abdomen, said the police.
The police added that Surendra ran a realty business in her name and recently suffered a huge loss. He had issued a few cheques on her name to land brokers from Rajasthan with whom he had entered into business deals in Rajasthan.
But he had no money to repay his debts. The brokers were reportedly pressurising him and Dhruv to repay their money.
Investigating Officer,Inspector H B Jamod said: The victim was angry with her husband for putting her in a mess. She was under tremendous pressure because of the brokers threats. On Saturday night, she had a fight with her husband and on Sunday morning, shot herself in her bedroom. Both her husband and daughter were present in the house at the time of the incident, but reportedly were in their own rooms.
Surendra was questioned for hours at the Ellisbridge police station. He reportedly told the police that she was under pressure because of the brokers demand for money.
Joint Commissioner of Police,Satish Sharma, who is supervising the investigations, said: The woman had to repeatedly visit Rajasthan as the lenders had slapped several notices on them. We have questioned her husband who claims that his indebtedness and the constant court proceedings in Rajasthan had disturbed her. But we are further probing the incident. We will interrogate Surendra again to get a fix on his role.
Dhruvs body was taken to the V S Hospital for post-mortem. The police said Dhruv had shot herself once in the abdomen and twice in the chest.
Jamod said,Her husband has been keeping a licenced revolver for the last 10 to 15 years. He keeps the revolver for protection as realty business involves risks and meeting people of all types.
The police have registered a case of accidental death but have not ruled out the possibility of murder.
