Man injures self while visiting relative at hospital

Tension erupted at one of the state-run medical college and hospital on Saturday,after a man turned violent and inflicted injuries on himself while he was visiting a patient.

Shatrughan Shoren,a resident of Dumka district in Jharkand was visiting a relative,Shibu Tutu,who was admitted at the Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital,at 9.30 am – during the visiting hours. The incident took place at the Ram Mohan block of the male ward.

Eye witnesses said the young man who is suspected to be suffering from epilepsy,had suddenly turned violent and started breaking saline bottles and hurting himself with those.

Though police and hospital staff arrived on the spot to stop him,Shoren had already injured himself to quite an extent. He has been admitted in the surgery ward , said S K Saha,Medical Superintendent of the hospital.

Though the hospital authorities suspect that Shoren might have been mentally deranged,initial investigations by the police have revealed that he was suffering from acute epilepsy.
