A city resident has been sentenced to five years in jail by a Delhi court for trying to kill his wife and her sister after learning that his wife had undergone abortion against his will. District Judge (DJ) Sunita Gupta sentenced North East Delhi resident Kamal Khan to jail and also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him relying on the testimony of his wife that her husband had attacked her after learning that she underwent abortion in utter frustration due to regular thrashing by him. "The utterance made by Khan that he will not let his wife live as the child has been aborted,coupled with the fact that injuries were inflicted on vital parts of her body and when her sister tried to intervene,she too was inflicted injuries with the knife,reflect that injuries were caused by the accused with an intention to kill," the judge said. The incident dated back to May,2010,when Khan had attacked the two sisters and inflicted knife injuries on their necks. Khan wife told police and later the court that she was beaten up by her husband regularly even when she was pregnant. She said once he sat over her and gave her several slaps,damaging her ear. Unable to bear the pain,she asked the accused to take her to the doctor to get the child aborted but Khan told her that he has nothing to do with her and the child has to be saved at any cost failing which he will not let her live. She,however,went to the hospital two days later and got the child aborted and then went to her mother's house. The victim also said Khan used to threaten her on telephone that he would kidnap her brother and kill him. She deposed before the court that on May 9,2010,evening,Khan came to her parents' house,yelling that as the child has been aborted,he would not not let her live and gave knife blows on her neck and left shoulder.
