Man kills self by jumping in pool

A 58-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by jumping in the swimming pool at the Chandigarh Club, Sector 1. His body was found floating in the pool Saturday morning and was noticed by a worker.

According to the police officials, the man has been identified as Mandeep Gujral, a resident of Sector 15. Police officials said that a suicide note has been recovered in which the deceased has mentioned that he was reeling under debt due to which he took the extreme step. A postmortem was conducted at the General Hospital in Sector 16 and the body was handed over to the family members.

Industrialists meet Bansal

Members of various industrialists' associations on Saturday met with the Union Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal and apprised him of various issues pending with the UT Administration for more than five years.

To begin with, the industrial plots were allotted in the city on a free hold basis. Later, the allotment between late seventies and early eighties, were made on a 99-year lease hold basis.

Lease hold industrial and other properties were converted into free hold in other the parts of the country. Thus, the lease hold residential properties of Chandigarh were also converted to free hold for a fee.

The Administration prepared a similar policy to convert lease hold industrial plots to free hold on the Delhi pattern, but did not implement it.

Most of the industrial plots have either changed hands on the basis of power of attorney or are into family division, resulting in litigations and revenue loss to the state.

Even the legitimate right of the plot owners, to transfer lease hold rights after the lock-in period of 15 years, is not being done, despite a notification of the Administration for this.
