  • In a shocking incident, a 35-year-old man allegedly committed suicide after killing his wife and two daughters at his residence in Shiv Shakti Society in Radhanpur area of Patan district on Friday morning.

Ashok Thakkar, who worked as a small time vendor, allegedly gave poison to his wife Sonal (28) and daughters, Foram (2) and one-month-old Dhruvi, before hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his residence.

According to the police, Thakkar may have taken the drastic step because of the severe financial crisis he was going through.

Thakkar's brother, Kamlesh, said that the former had taken a house loan about six months ago and was facing difficulties in paying back the installments.

"This seems to be the reason that provoked Thakkar to take the extreme step," Radhanpur police sub inspector, R L Nimana said.

The dead bodies have been sent for post-mortem. The police are waiting for the reports to ascertain the time and cause of the deaths. Meanwhile a case of accidental deaths has been registered and the police have also filed a case against Thakkar on charges of three murders.
