A man impersonating as joint secretary in the Union Finance Ministry entered Chief Minister's secretariat and visited the office of the CM's principal secretary Rakesh Garg today morning.
However, the man was arrested before he could meet the principal secretary, said Lucknow Superintendent of Police, City (East), Rajesh Kumar. He said that the man later identified himself as PK Singh (45), a resident of Kavi Nagar in Ghaziabad. He claimed that he was employed with Adobe Systems in Ghaziabad, but the claim was found false, the SP said.
The man had contacted Rakesh Garg's personal secretary Ramashanker Srivastava in September, identifying himself as Saurabh Garg, a 1991 batch IAS officer serving as joint secretary with the Ministry of Finance.
He had taken Srivastava's help in getting a room booked for himself at the VIP guest house in Dalibagh area for two days, but did not visit the principal secretary's office. He left the guest house without settling the bill which was sent to the principal secretary's office, said Srivastava.
Recently, he sent an email to Srivastava, seeking favour from Rakesh Garg to get an assistant regional transport officer (ARTO) posted in Varanasi transferred elsewhere. To pursue the matter, he arrived at secretariat annexe this morning.
The SP City said the man got a pass issued from the reception to meet principal secretary to CM, showing an identity card as Saurabh Garg. The principal secretary's personal secretary then called up Saurabh Garg's office in Ministry of Finance and found that the man was actually an imposter. Srivastava informed the Hazratganj police who arrested Singh.
