A 50-year-old man,who stabbed a youth to death suspecting him to be in a romantic liaison with his daughter, has been awarded life imprisonment by a Delhi court. Additional Sessions Judge Narinder Kumar sentenced rag picker Pappu to life term while noting the "barbaric and brutal" manner in which the convict had repeatedly stabbed the victim Sanjay leading to his intestine bursting out of his abdomen at the scene of crime. "The convict inflicted as many as 15 injuries on Sanjay. The convict so brutally attacked and inflicted injuries that intestines of the victim had come out at the place of occurrence itself. It is a case of barbaric and brutal murder," the court said, rejecting Pappu's plea for leniency. "Sanjay had come to earn his livelihood far away from his parents and native place, but the convict dashed to ground all hopes of a young person of 18 years and his family," the court said. As per the prosecution,Pappu, alias Jolly,a Bihar native lived with Sanjay,in a slum on G T Karnal Road in north Delhi. Sanjay too belonged to the same place as Pappu and had joined him in Delhi to earn his livelihood. The two used to share a room on the second floor of a 'jhuggi' with a junk dealer Bilal running a shop in the ground floor. The two used to collect scrap and sell it to Bilal. The murder, which dates back to April 10,2008,was discovered by Sanjay's cousin Lalit, whom the victim's father had called up from his native place in Bihar to say that he had been telephoned by Pappu that his son had committed suicide. As Lalit reached Sanjay's place,he found his room locked from outside. As he peeped into the room through a chink in the door,he found Sanjay lying in a pool of blood after which the police was informed. Later during the trial, scrap dealer Bilal told the court that he had seen Pappu and Sanjay quarrelling on the fateful day and had even tried to intervene and calm them, before leaving for his home. He also deposed that Sanjay, who used to visit Pappu's family here, had told him that the convict suspected him of having an affair with his daughter. The court held that there was nothing to suggest Bilal and Lalit had any enmity with Pappu to depose falsely against him.
