A person suffered grave injuries when the vehicle he was driving collided with a speeding truck at the intersection on Pakhowal road in the wee hours today.
The truck, being driven by one Rajinder Singh, crushed the rear side of Mahindra Xylo at the Pakhowal lightpoint in the wee hours today, seriously injuring Bhagat Singh, the driver of Xylo, who has been admitted to ICU of the Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, the police said.
“While the truck was coming from Ferozepur roadside and going towards Doraha, crossing the Malhar road, the driver of Mahindra Xylo (PB 10 CN 0255) was coming from a different side at around 3.45 am in the morning, when the two vehicles collided with each other at Pakhowal lightpoint,” said SI Dalip Kumar at Model Town police station. Bhagat was alone in the vehicle and was headed for Lalto Kalan.
Bhagat Singh is in coma and is battling for life, the police said. The police impounded the truck after Rajinder Singh of Bathinda, who was driving a truck bearing number RJ 19 GA 4191 fled from the spot, as the truck could not start after the incident. The driver was later arrested by the police.
In another incident at Kitchlu Nagar, a truck lost balance and crossed over to the divider while slightly hitting a car going on the other side of the road. The sub-Inspector, Jagdish Singh, incharge of police post at Kitchlu Nagar, said the dirver of the truck failed to control the vehicle after it developed some technical problem.
