A man shot his woman friend and then turned the gun on himself inside a park in Ghaziabad on Wednesday morning. Happy Guptan, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Ghaziabad, said eyewitnesses to the incident told the police that the couple was taking a walk in Lohia Park, Sahibabad, when the man allegedly pulled out a pistol and shot the woman.
“Municipal staffers working there told us the two were taking a walk in the park around 9.30 am. The man pulled out a pistol and shot the woman. He then shot himself with the same pistol,” added Guptan.
Both of them were taken to a nearby hospital, where they were declared dead on arrival. The man, identified as Alok, was a resident of Bulandshahr and was in the late twenties. The girl, Rachna, was a resident of Sahibabad.
The police are yet to ascertain the reason behind the incident. “When we contacted the man’s family, his father said he had applied in Meerut University and the couple had been married in court,” a senior police officer said.
Rachna used to work as teacher in Bulandshahr. The police are yet to register the statement of the girl’s family. Postmortem has been conducted on the bodies and a case registered,” the officer added.
