Contempt plea against CM Bolpur resident says he was victim of 'corrupt judiciary', let off.

There was a dramatic scene during the hearing of a contempt petition against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee by a division bench of Calcutta High Court on Friday when a man suddenly stood up and started shouting in support of Chief Minister's remark about alleged corruption in judiciary.

The man, who was later identified as 42-year-old Indrajit Biswas from Bolpur, started shouting "What Mamata Banerjee said is right" as the court was hearing the contempt plea against the Chief Minister for her August 14 remark which she made inside Assembly casting aspersion on the judiciary's integrity by saying that verdicts could be bought.

Taken aback by Biswas' sloganeering, police and some officials rushed to the spot where he was standing and took him out of the court room.

Later, the division bench of Acting Chief Justice Pratap Kumar Roy and Justice Subal Baidya, which was hearing the contempt plea, asked police to produce Biswas. When Justice Roy asked him why he shouted inside the court room, an undeterred Biswas replied that his intention was to draw the court's attention to corruption in the judiciary. He said he was a victim of such corruption.

Biswas alleged that he had filed a petition against an oil company for not getting dealership, but the High Court and the Supreme Court did not hear his petition properly. Biswas named three judges of the Calcutta High Court and handed over some documents to the bench.

To this, Justice Roy told Biswas: "There is a system and process to raise such allegations before the bench.'' Biswas replied back: "System or process actually leads to such corruption." He told the judges that he was ready to go to jail for his act but his "conviction about corruption in the high court and judiciary was correct".
