Man, son shot at in Gurgaon ICU

At least five persons, two armed with guns, walked inside the ICU of Gurgaon's Sunrise Hospital on Tuesday and opened fire at two patients admitted there.

Police said a 50-year-old man and his son were critically injured in the afternoon shootout. The private hospital is located on Khandsa Road.

Satbir received three bullet injuries on head and left leg, and his son Yogendra was shot twice in the face. The two have been shifted to Medanta Medicity Hospital.

According to police, the shootout was the fallout of a property dispute, which was being heard at a city court and a case had been filed under IPC Section 307 (attempt to murder).

Satbir and Yogendra were named as accused in the case and the complainant was one Manoj, also a resident of Khandsa village, police said.

The case was to be heard in court on Tuesday and both the parties were present for the hearing, police said. At the court, there was an altercation between the two groups and Satbir and Yogendra were injured in the clash. Following this, the two were brought to Sunrise Hospital, police said.

According to police, around 3.30 pm a group of more than 30 people — in seven to eight cars — landed at the hospital. At least five persons from this group walked inside the hospital and shot at the two patients.

The attackers have not yet been identified.

"We are in touch with the victims' family and are waiting for a formal complaint. A few family members of the victims were in the hospital at the time of the shootout," a police officer said.

An attendant at the ICU said minutes before the shootout the patients had been shifted from the emergency ward to the ICU. He said the patients were being shifted to the beds in the ICU when the attackers came in and shot at the two from a close range.
