Mumbai Police Crime Branch arrested Tuesday a Bhendi Bazaar resident for allegedly calling the domestic airport and threatening to blow up a flight.
Kabir Hussain (38) was arrested by unit 8 of crime branch at around 4 pm.
Police said he made the hoax call Monday and said the map of the airport would change between 7 and 10 pm, as a bomb had been planted on the premises.
Several man hours were wasted in a search of the airport that was carried out following the threat.
"We found that the number was registered in the name of an employee of a five-star hotel, but could not find further evidence against the caller. On Tuesday, we received a tip-off and picked up Hussain from Vile Parle. After finding the phone used in the crime in his possession, we placed him under arrest," said an officer.
Hussain runs a recruitment agency in Mumbra and had come to the airport Monday to meet an agent who was supposed to pay him some money.
However, the agent disappeared inside the airport and switched off his phone. Hussain could not follow him without ticket and returned empty-handed. However, he knew the agent was taking a flight to Guwahati Monday evening and made the call to inconvenience him, crime branch officers said.
