  • Unable to raise money for his kidney transplant, a 42-year-old man from Burdwan has written to the district administration that he be allowed to die peacefully.

A resident of Chachai village in Burdwan, Kripasindhu Bala says he will also write to the President, the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister with his request.

Bala was first diagnosed with critical kidney ailment in 2005 following which he was advised immediate transplant. At that time, the local puja committee and various agencies donated money and Bala underwent the surgery at the SSKM Hospital, with the kidney donated by his mother Suruchi.

However, in January this year, he fell ill and was once again diagnosed with a failed kidney at the SSKM Hospital and was advised to go for a second transplant.

Bala, who holds a diploma in mechanical engineering, lost his job in 2005 and has no other means of income to support his three-year-old daughter and wife.

“I cannot afford the transplant. Every month, it takes Rs 3,000 to buy medicines and the transplant will cost around Rs 2.5 lakh. I cannot live like this any more. I lost my job since I cannot take any strain. I cannot face my wife and child. I could do nothing for them. There is no point continuing my wretched life,” Bala said over phone.

“That is why I have decided to approach the administration to allow me to end my life peacefully. I have also written to the district administration to allow my body to be donated to the SSKM Hospital,” he added.

    ... contd.
