Mani Shankar Aiyar takes LS polls deafeat ‘philosophically’

Mani Shankar Aiyar has said that he was not deterred by his defeat in the elections from Mayiladuthurai Lok Sabha seat.

Former Union Minsiter Mani Shankar Aiyar has said that he was not deterred by his defeat in the Lok Sabha elections from Mayiladuthurai Lok Sabha seat and would continue to serve the people of the constituency.

Aiyar, who has undertaken a tour of the constituency to thank the voters, said ‘though lost the polls,I will try to do whatever I can for the welfare of the people. My offices at Kumbakonam,Mayiladuthurai and other places would continue to function and people could contact my representatives if they require my services”,he said in Porayar.

Aiyar said though the electoral loss was disappointing,he took it ‘philosophically. “I have tasted both success and defeat at Mayiladuthurai. In politics, success and defeat are quite common. So,I take it in my own stride,” he said.

“Out of the 7.99 lakh persons who cast their votes,3.28 lakh people have reposed confidence in me and I will forever remain thankful to them. I will continue my work to earn the goodwill of all the people of this constituency,” Aiyar, who lost to AIADMK’s O S Manian for a margin of 36,800 votes said.
