The central and Manipur governments have signed a tripartite agreement with a small militant faction, under which the forces would stop operating against it, official sources said today.

The agreement was signed in New Delhi by representatives from the Centre, Manipur government and the Kangleipak Communist Party-Lallumba Faction (KCP-LF), a small militant group.

Under the agreement, peace talks would be held with the militant faction soon, the sources said.

The authorities would rehabilitate the former militants within a year besides ceasing operations against them, they said.

Such agreements were signed about five years ago with Kuki militant organisations, including the United People's Front with which peace talks would be held.

The authorities were trying to sign agreements with other factions of militant outfits.

Over 30 militant and insurgent organisations operate in the state with their demands varying from 'an independent Manipur' to formation of smaller states along the ethnic lines within the framework of the Constitution.
