The common man in Manipur continues to suffer as an economic blockade called to press the government for creation of a new district called Sadar Hills completed one month on Tuesday. NH-39,Manipurs lifeline,has since remained closed,causing acute shortage of foodgrains,petroleum products,and even life-saving drugs. Repeated appeals by the state government have fallen on deaf ears. On Monday,the Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee renewed its pledge to continue the blockade after a public meeting rejected the governments appeals. ssp Commodity prices have sky-rocketed in the past three weeks. This is the third longest such economic blockade witnessed by Manipur recently; the longest was a 60-day blockade last year.
