  • Manipuri actress Urikhimbam Devita Devi and film producer Laimayum Surjyakanta Sharma, who were arrested last week for alleged links with an armed underground organisation, were released on bail on Saturday.

Devita Devi, an award-winning film actress who has acted in nearly 30 films, and Sharma were asked by the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Bishnupur to furnish bail bonds of Rs 30,000 each.

Devita Devi—along with R K Raghunath alias Nongshaba, an activist of the proscribed outfit Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL)—was picked up by the police in New Delhi last month but was later let off.

However, she was re-arrested as soon as she landed at the Tulihal Airport in Imphal on June 29.

The actress and Sharma (arrested on June 30) were booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 2004.
