A day after he announced his return to politics after three years in retirement, former Congress minister Major (Rtd) Vijai Singh Mankotia on Wednesday approached the Himachal Pradesh High Court seeking to be impleaded in a petition filed by two key witnesses in the corruption case against Union Minister Virbhadra Singh.

The corruption case against Singh and his wife is based on a controversial audio CD that Mankotia had released in 2007 in support of his charges of corruption against Singh, then the state’s chief minister.

Mankotia, who told a press conference here that he was returning to public life to fight corruption, released copies of his petition filed under article 226 of the Constitution to become a party in the High Court case filed by two ‘hostile’ key-witnesses in the Virbhadra Singh corruption trial.

“Filing of petitions by two witnesses, including Kapil Mohan,a leading industrialist,is a glaring example of methodically winning over prosecution witnesses,” he alleged and sought cancellation of Virbhadra Singh’s bail.

Mankotia says he will not be joining any political party, including Congress,as his principal target in the corruption campaign happens to be Virbhadra Singh.
