CPI(M) politburo member Brinda said Manmohan and Advani should stop petty bickering.

The ongoing war of words between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and BJP Prime Ministerial candidate L K Advani on terrorism was ‘petty’ and should stop, CPI(M) politburo member Brinda Karat said.

"The petty bickering of Manmohan Singh and L K Advani on the issue of terrorism is an insult and added injury to the people of affected states like Assam," she told reporters.

"It would be in the interest of the country that such petty bickering stopped and they work together towards building a strong nation and take action against anti-nationals," Karat said.

Alleging that the "flag of secularism" was not safe in hands of the Congress, she stressed the need for an alternative secular Central government.

"The flag of secularism is not safe in Congress hands because it is compromised with the Hindutva forces. There is total lack of action against organisations involved in the incidents of Malegaon, Hyderabad, Mangalore and Kandamahal," Karat said.

Congress, she said, was resorting to "double standards" in the name of secularism. It knew about the activities of SIMI, but the government has not banned it, she alleged.

"Congress is betraying people in the name of secularism.

Therefore, there is the need for an alternative secular government at the Centre," Karat, a Rajya Sabha member, said.

DO NOT SPOIL OUR SOCIETYBy: IMDAD.GILANI | 19-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward This trend is going to be set very bad trend in our society considering the fact that a large part of our siciety are illetrate and they often follow what they hear from our elite so i request both the political leaders to keep themself away from making such statements
Petty bickering Manmohan Vs AdvaniBy: DPKarkara | 19-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward Welcome Birinda you have said what a large number of the countrymen are saying about these two people. Their meaningless personal attacks on each other have made the people to switchh off the TV channels as these have bored them depressed them. Sonia is also not far behind in debasing the standards of political debate. One wonders if any of the three have any right to the sympathy of any Indian. One thing is clear Advani has managed to pull down Manmohan Singh to the level to which he belongs. The aura Manmohan Singh had managed to weave around him with the help of a committed media and suppression of his real intentions is now finished and his real character of a self seeking person with the disposition of a bureaocrat stands revealed. Thge way he defamed Indian democracy at the time of Confidence vote was the beginning but people still blamed saleable leaders for that. Thw way Mr. Karat exploded his assertions about the left joining after the elections is the perfect answer to his perfidy. As for Advani, the BJP and the country would be much better without him.
Brinda's worry about Prime MinstersBy: rajmohan k | 19-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward Brinda, you please go and find some more terrorist organizations which can be inducted into CPM for votebank, exactly the way your party did in Kerala by inducting Abdul Naser Madani and PDP who has been jailed for terrorists activities. Dont worry and spend your time correcting the senior most leaders like Advani and Manmohan Singh!
Secularism and left - wah lawjabBy: oldindian | 19-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward First to the point about political bickering. I find it amazing that left, by that I mean surjit's followers, who fought tooth and nail with indira over imposition of emergency (indira was opposed by opposition for transfer of the power of the legislature to PMO) do not see the merit of advani's arguments - which is that the unconstitutional surrender of decision making authority to chaiperson of the coailition by constitutionally recognized PM is making a mockery of democracy. And shinde, wily maharashtrian politician said so much in public - by his "ji huzoor" speech, which is not being cursorily mentioned by yours truly NDTV. The absurdity of the situation is such that, none of us know what the PM and by the extension his office and ministry thinks about any issue. With respect to issue in assam, we dont know who is responsible and has final call on what needs to be done w.r.t illegal immigration issue - ideally PM should own up any decision made w.r. that. He cant say "Dher aaye durust aaye" for any messups and follow up corrections. and as far as secularism and left goes, what about madani's mohabbatein for LDF in kerala?
