NCP Chief Sharad Pawar created a flutter in political circles when he said that in the upcoming polls Manmohan Singh is Congress party’s nominee for Prime Minister's post but UPA’s nominee for the top job is yet to decided.

Hitting out at Congress for its criticism of his proposed visit to Bhubneshwar to attend a Third Front rally Sharad Pawar said on Friday that he does not need advice from anybody on how to conduct his political activities.

He also warmed up to Left parties saying he would not ignore their contribution to the stability of the UPA government for four and half years.

Addressing a press conference in Mumbai, Pawar said Friday’s meeting at Bhubneshwar was organised by BJD with whom NCP has an alliance in Orissa and not the Left or Third Front.

"We are contesting one Lok Sabha and eight assembly seats in that state with the BJD. I am not a member of the Left or Third Front. Even CPI leader A B Bardhan said I was not member of the Third Front but was a personal friend," Pawar said.

Without naming Union Home Minister P Chidambaram who had appealed to him on Thursday not to share platform with Third Front as it was "opposed to Congress," Pawar said he did not require advice from anybody other than his own party on how to carry out his political activity.

Pawar said he was a member of the union cabinet for five years out of which for four and half years, the UPA government depended on the crucial support of the Left parties. "I will not ignore this contribution," he said.

Pol. Party Affiliations and IdealsBy: Winston V Kumar | 04-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward Indian politics is s messed up. Leaders and people alike do not even know the idologies they stand for. I believe that a person, party or nation that does not stand for anything will fall for anything. A voter should first understand what are the values, bylaws and the ideals a certain party stands for. A person who has been a candidate for the Congress I joining a radical Hindu outfit cannot be termed secular and likewise a person who is of the Communist parties cannot become a Congressman overnight. In the US people know what they believe in and their respective parties-Republicans vs Democrats vs Independants. democrats believe in abortion, same sex marriages, etc. So if I believed in homosexuality and killing of innocent babies, I will vote for the Democrats. In the same fashion, if a person believes in carrying out mass killings of minorities and temples when Religion has nothing to do with politics, he does vote for BJP, BJD, Shiv Sena and the like. India should change.
Manmohan is Congress Nominee ......By: M Krishnamachary | 04-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward Does Mr. Powar's remarks also mean that he wants to be next P.M. Perhaps , yes. He was a Congressman. But, discipline eluded him. So, NCP was born . Then he saw no problem joining UPA as a minister for Agriculture of a different party. If he now aspires to be P.M. , so be it. Morals have no place in some one's calculations. Do they name them astute politicians ?
Scoundrels in politicsBy: Hero Vaz | 04-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward What is this mania or lunacy about who will be PM? Does one man run the country? Is India a dictatorship? The PM is one among equals and governance is collective. No wonder the general opinion is that Indian politicians are a bunch of uneducated, self-seeking scoundrels.
Pawar and CompanyBy: Altaf | 04-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward Until it is proven from where does Pawar or people like Narayan Rane etc get their assets from, elections should be put on hold. 10000 Cr is waste at this time of recession as anyways going to be hung parliament. How do they hire Rs 100000 per hour of chartered aircraft? From does they bring the Q7's and BMW's for personal use. They should be exposed before wasting people's money. I see no party clean fromt he current list. They have done nothing in terms of improving infrasture of the country. e.g. if they would be willing the Bandra-Marine lines causeway would be open for traffic. All the national highways woudl eb minimum two lanes and so on... Cannot Imagine a prime minister with 25 seat in the parliament heading another opportunist coalition.
Unified Power Axis?By: S.V.Ramanan | 04-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward Excellent coordination by the constituents of UPA.Keep it up.
