Master Cup: IDFC,HSBC record contrasting wins

IDFC Mutual Fund defeated DBS Bank by 19 runs in a thrilling Group I tie in the Corporate Masters Cup cricket tournament at the Bombay Gymkhana on Thursday.

In Group II,HSBC overcame Tata Capital by 54 runs,while in Group III Vodafone ‘A’ beat Deutsche Bank by 31 runs in another exciting tie.

Ernst & Young prevailed over Peninsula Land by 37 runs in a Group IV encounter.

Twenty-four corporate teams are in the fray. The four-day tournament is part of the Bombay Gymkhana’s year-long celebrations to mark the 75th anniversary of the first-ever cricket Test on India soil between the Col. CK Nayudu-led India and the Douglas Jardine-led England at the Bombay Gymkhana way back on 15th December,1933.

The tournament is a seven-a-side league-cum-knock out tournament exclusively for corporates. Depending on performances in the league phase,the 24 teams will be placed in eight respective groups of three teams each for the knock out phase. The team topping the group will qualify for the Champions Cup,the second placed will qualify for the Plate category,while the team finishing third will be placed in the Bowl category.

Deutsche Bank to meet ICICI in final

Deutsche Bank and ICICI Bank scored comfortable semi-final victories to set up a title clash for the Champions Cup in the Corporate Cricket Leagueplayed at Western Railway Stadium,Mahalaxmi.

While Deutsche Bank defeated Standard Chartered Bank by seven wickets,ICICI Bank outplayed J P Morgan eight wickets.

Batting first,JP Morgan managed to score 151 for 9 in their 20 overs,Sameer Samant stroking a valuable 70. However,his knock was vain as useful contributions from Chandramohan Nair (33),Prashant Narvekar (28) and Avinash Mane (59) saw ICICI Bank reaching the target at 152 for 2.

The final will be played on January 10 at the Western Railway ground from 9.30am onwards.
