Sachin Tendulkar marks his television debut in an animated avatar.

For over 20 years,he has been everyman’s hero in the country. It is only fitting that the channels are now cashing in on Sachin Tendulkar’s popularity and making an animation feature on him. The series titled Master Blasters,is a 3D CGI action, comedy and adventure series. Co-produced by Shemaroo Entertainment Ltd and Moonscoop LLC,this is the first time that an Indian cricketer or sportsperson will be seen in an animated avatar on television. The production has just begun and it is scheduled to appear on screen sometime next year. However, the channel for broadcast is yet to be decided.

The show will be divided into seasons with the first season comprising 26 episodes of 22 minutes each. While the cricketer is the central character, the show also features 12 kids and a dog. In the show,Tendulkar is appointed by the Programme for International Training of Cricket Heroes (PITCH) to head a training camp for the finest young cricket talents from around the world. Facing opposition from another cricket camp,Tendulkar’s proteges play a series of international competitive matches in a futuristic spaceship-like cricket stadium that can fly and land anywhere in the world.

Tendulkar, himself a fan of animation features,is eagerly looking forward to the series. “The challenge for the production team will be to ensure that some values and learnings are imparted while entertaining the viewers. It will be a different experience to see one’s animated self on the screen, performing as a larger-than-life character,” he says in a statement.

The producers,on their part, plan to take this show to non-cricketing countries as well. “Working with an icon such as Sachin Tendulkar is a dream come true. We are confident that this highly entertaining series will be a great success in India and cricket-playing nations,” says Smita Maroo, vice president,Shemaroo Entertainment Ltd.
