Matter of CHANCE

Bengali film Prem By Chance is about love in the life of youngsters

Bengali film Prem By Chance is about love in the life of youngsters
Filmmakers Sudeshna Roy and Abhijit Guha are winding up the shooting of their new feature film Prem By Chance. Actors Koel Mullick and Abir Chatterjee will share the screen for the first time together. Sudeshna and Abhijit had teamed up earlier and delivered a hit with Cross Connections. It was a frothy yet serious attempt to look at the changing map of man-woman relationships among Generation Y.

Their new film Prem By Chance is based on a script by Preetikona Pal Choudhury. We intended it to be wholesome family entertainment with lots of co-incidences packed to attract all age groups from old to very young. The problem is that with some degree of education,we are not able to make a commercial film the usual masala way. So,we have a solid,story-backed script with lots of characters coming in to create situations that are serious, comic and entertainment.

The entire concept of the film is hooked on to the million-dollar question – will the two protagonists get lucky in love, explains Sudeshna who has been entertaining everyone with her acting prowess in teleserials and telefilms.
The serious element comes in from the politics and corruption in a village scenario. We do not believe in the rural-urban divide in the Bengali audience so we are trying to cater to everyone through this film. We are convinced that if entertainment is presented in good taste, with good music,a credible script and naturalistic acting, there is no reason why the audience should reject the film, Sudeshna explains.

Sujoy Dutta Roy will be editing the film while Manoj Mishra has cinematographed it. Two song sequences are to be shot in the Kerala backwaters. The film has two major attractions – one is a tractor race and the other is a lovely song sung during the immersion of Goddess Kali.
Noted singer Rupankar is making his debut as music director in Prem By Chance. He will lend his voice along with famous singers Jojo,Prateek and Arghya.
Produced by M.K. Media,Prem By Chance is likely to be an August-September release.
