Prize distribution,rallies,flag hoisting ceremonies and sports events dominated 49 th May Day celebrations on Friday.
Maeers MIT,Maharashtra State Wrestling Council and Maharashtra Olympic Association held a first-of-its-kind wrestling conference on the occasion. A plan of action for the upliftment of this traditional sport was finalised during the function. One of the major decisions taken was to start a wrestling training institute on Panhalgad near Kolhapur the city of wrestlers. At least 33 wrestlers,winners of Hind Kesari and Maharashtra Kesari were present for the conference.
Twenty five police officers were awarded Police medals during the Maharashtra Day function held at Police grounds,which was attended by guardian minister Ajit Pawar,divisional commissioner Dilip Band,police commissioner Satyapal Singh and collector Chandrakant Dalvi. Personnel from the revenue department and sport persons who showed significant performance at the state and national level were also awarded at the function. After the flag hoisting ceremony,Pawar,in his speech appealed to the audience to plant trees and conserve environment. MLA Girish Bapat,Zilla Parshad chief Vaishali Abane,Pimpri Chinchwad mayor Aparna Doke and others were also present at the function.
Similalrly,deputy director of Maharashtra Council for Agricultural Education and Research (MCAER) hoisted the flag on account of May day at the MCAER campus.
The Maharashtra Kamgar Sena had organised a rally of labourers that saw the participation of 500 labourers. The rally began from Maharashtra Bhavan and ended at Kamgar Putala. Speaking at the rally,the Senas chief Nana Khsirsagar said that there are five lakh labourers in Pune.
