  • Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Thursday announced an alliance with former Haryana Chief Minister Bhajanlal's Haryana Janhit Congress Party (HJCP) for the assembly elections there.

"We have forged an alliance with HJCP for contesting assembly elections in Haryana. Out of 90 assembly seats HJCP will contest on 50 while 40 seats will be contested by BSP," Chief Minister Mayawati told reporters here.

She said while Kuldeep Bishnoi of HJCP would be the chief ministerial candidate of the alliance, the deputy chief minister would be from BSP.

"We have forged this alliance, which is long term. In future we will also contest Lok Sabha election together in the 10 seats there. BSP will contest six and HJCP the rest," she said.

Mayawati hoped the alliance would get majority in Haryana.

"Poll percentage of both the parties in the Lok Sabha elections indicates that we have good standing in the state," she added.

Mayawati By: BNG | 18-Jun-2009 Reply | Forward It is true Politics has no ethics. It is strange a shrewd politician Bhajan Lal who had best of his time as CM of Haryana in 70s should forge alliance with great opportunist Mayawati. It is a fact that he was also a great opportunist but that is the past now. He should know Mayawati very well that she belongs to none. She never hesitates to stab in the back if necessary. Lal served Haryana very well. He earned laurels by keeping a balance in development
