In what is perhaps a first, Uttar Pradesh officials have received a book to make sure that the Chief Minister’s announcements are implemented properly, and in time.

“Uttar Pradesh ki Mukhya Mantri Mayawatiji ki ghoshnaon ka vivran” is meant for government officers. “The aim is to ensure that these announcements do not remain on paper and die a slow death,” said a senior government officer. The 153-page book is a compilation of 150 announcements Mayawati made in her one-year term — May 13, 2007 to May 12, 2008.

With a proper index in the beginning, each page is dedicated to a scheme. It records the date of announcement, deadline for its completion, the project cost and most importantly, the post and name of the officers accountable for implementing it within the stipulated time.

The schemes have been colour-coded: Those costing less than Rs 50 crore are on white pages; schemes costing Rs 50 crore to Rs 300 crore are on pink pages; schemes above Rs 300 crore are on blue pages.

The book also has a prologue by the Cabinet Secretary, in which he has expressed his hope that the DMs and Commissioners to carry out the jobs within the given time frame while ensuring quality of work.

The Government felt the need to come up with the book after its first review meeting on April 24, attended by district magistrates and commissioners. In course of the meeting, it was discovered that of the 150 announcements made by the CM, work had picked up only in around 40.
