Chief Minister Mayawati discontinued the sector system, which was meant for monitoring the development schemes at the ground level.
She also asked the divisional commissioners on Wednesday to deliver results.
Under the sector system, senior IAS officers were asked to visit the rural areas and monitor the development schemes.
According to Mayawati, the decision was taken on the basis of feedback collected by Additional Cabinet Secretary V S Pandey and Principal Secretary (Home) Kunwar Fateh Bahadur. They had toured the state recently.
The chief minister warned the divisional commissioners of punitive action if the magistrate of any district under their jurisdiction failed to perform. She made it clear that development work will not be directly monitored at the state government level.
From September, the government will review the performance of the divisional commissioners at monthly meetings in Lucknow, where they will have to present their reports on the progress made in various development schemes.
She directed them to follow the government’s policy of “Sarvjan Hitay Sarvjan Sukhay”, but they were also asked to give priority to the SCs and STs in the development schemes. The divisional commissioners will have to include the benefits given to the SCs and STs in their monthly reports. The report will also contain information about the allotment of agricultural land to the SCs and STs.
The chief minister also discussed power supply in rural areas, electrification of the villages, construction of roads and availability of medicines in hospitals. She also directed the divisional commissioners to keep a watch on government contracts — if any — awarded to people with a criminal background.
