Following the age-old line of wisdom — Where there is a will, there is a way —the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation converted an encroached area into a green belt. Though it was a triangular park area in papers, the area on the Daresi road had been encroached upon by rehri vendors for the past many years.
Soon after removing the vendors, grills were installed and the saplings were planted.
Not only this even the staff was busy even today to take care of the park area today and watering was being done in the park. “Grass will be planted soon and we will make it look clean and green. The MC Commissioner has really appreciated our efforts,” said Navin Malhotra superintendent of tehabazari branch.
Yesterday, the members were attacked by vendors when they had gone in the morning.
Similar formula can be followed even in the other areas as well where parks have been converted into parking lots and even garbage dumps. “Prompt action is a must to make the encroachers run away,” said an employee.
MC Commissioner A K Sinha has asked residents not to spoil the green belt while the Ramlila Committee of Daresi has assured upkeep of the area because it will add beauty to the congested part of the city.
