Residents of posh localities of Sarabha Nagar, Jagjit Nagar and adjoining areas are getting contaminated water supply for the past many days, but the Operation and Maintenance (O&M) cell staff has not been able to locate the fault till date. More than 100 persons living in these areas had taken ill in the past 10 days and finally when they realised the foul smell coming out of the water, they stopped drinking water. A few are still taking medicines for stomach infections.
Contamination of water supply and sewer pipe started about two weeks ago in this area, due to which many residents had suffered from diarrhoea. Later, when the residents complained to the area councillor, Amrit Varsha Rampal, the work started. As the fault has yet not been located, the residents are buying water from outside.
“More than 10 days have been passed, but MC has not been able to locate the fault. We are buying mineral water but not everyone can afford it,” said Dev Ahuja, a resident of Jagjit Nagar.
A large number of restaurants are also located in this area, which are the worst affected. Most of them are getting some water supply from water tankers for routine purposes and for offering water to the customers, they are buying mineral water.
Rinku Kahlon, owner of Col Cabin, said, “We have asked the O&M cell a number of times but they are saying that they have not been able to locate the fault till date, but this is not justified. Earlier, the entire staff of my restaurant had got ill and I got my filters checked, but finally found that fault was with MC water supply”
