Municipal Corporation today handed over nearly 8,127 square yard of land in Jawaddi village to Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA). With this land transfer,MC authorities seem to have cleared the outstanding loan worth Rs 20 crore of GLADA.
This amount was given by GLADA to MC during Sangat Darshan progrrames in the form of a loan on special instructions of the Chief Minister,Parkash Singh Badal. Assistant town planner Ramesh Chabbra did this land transfer where it is believed that GLADA would plan some housing scheme.
It needs to be mentioned that during the start of Sangat Darshan programmes,a total of Rs 40 crore were released to Ludhiana MC,out of which Rs 20 crores were contributed by GLADA.
Earlier, the MC was taking up the issue that Sangat Darshan money could not be considered a loan, but when no positive reply came, they finally decided to hand over land in lieu of money to GLADA,because MC was already cash starved.
The value of this land is stated to be around Rs 20 crore. A few encroachments like jhuggis,a tubewell,a small temple etc, which existed on the land had been cleared, said the MC authorities.
The MC has announced that it would construct nearly 100 public toilets on the roadsides. The project will be entrusted to a private player. It may be mentioned that this project has been announced a number of times earlier also by the MC authorities, but nothing has been done till date.
