When Chief Parliamentary Secretary Harish Rai Dhanda and Deputy Speaker Satpal Gosain visited the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation on Wednesday, they were shocked to learn that the original file pertaining to the cleanliness of the Field Ganj Nallah has been ‘missing’ since 2006.
Besides being asked to present a status report of the file by June 25, the duo has asked Superintending Engineer Dharam Singh to ensure that the nallah is cleaned by the same time (June 25).
“An inspection will be carried out on June 25 before the details of the file are sought,” said Dhanda.
Interestingly, despite the original file having gone “missing”, as reported, Dharam Singh is said to possess duplicate copies of a “few documents” of the file and another duplicate file is available with the MC Commissioner.
“Only the safe pages were photocopied while the rest of the documents are missing. The incriminating parts are missing for reasons best known to the engineers,” said Dhanda.
As many as ten meetings have been conducted on matters pertaining to the project since 2006, though without the file. In addition, the corporation has also got repair work worth Rs 15 lakh done on the nallah, while another Rs 8 lakh has been paid to a private consultant.
“When there was no file, how were all these works decided upon and why was there no written communication on the missing file,” Dhanda asked, to which Dharam Singh replied, “I had told the then commissioner Vikas Partap about it verbally.”
