Gross violations in the records maintained by tenants : Lessees have not paid rentals for years

MC Additional Commissioner K P Brar today conducted a survey of about 23 properties, which were leased or rented out by the Municipal Corporation and found glaring anomalies in the records being maintained the lessees. Many occupants are not paying rent in the range of Rs 23-Rs 250 per month for the last couple of years, she said.

Brar said, "I will make a detailed report of the survey and will present it in the general house so that we can think of a re-formulation of the rental policy. We can earn a lot of revenue if some changes are made. I was surprised to know that the lease period of many buildings was over but the MC had not taken action against them till date."

The team went to the Kapoor Hospital market where the hospital had constructed shops on the leased land. Here too, the lease deed is over since long but MC has not planned any action till date. Interestingly, the project file is also missing in this particular case.

Three properties of Mastar Tara Singh College were also surveyed for which lease deed was over. On the Reikhi Cinema road, about 23 shops have been rented out by the MC. The rent is between Rs 23 and Rs 100 but the shopkeepers have not paid any rent for the last couple of years.

In all 49 shops at Talaab Bazar, Daresi Ground and Jalandhar bypass have not paid rent for years now.
