Following the Newsline report, MC team today swung into action and fixed the fault which was causing contamination of the water being suplied to the residents of Sarabha Nagar and Jagjit Nagar and some other areas.
The problem was traced to a private connection taken by Gaba dairy in Jagjit Nagar which was causing mixing of sewer water with tap water as the pipe was damaged badly.
Claiming that the problem had fixed, Executive Engineer Manjit Singh said that water being supplied to the area was perfectly normal now and the residents could drink it without any apprehension.
This connection was cut and the owner had put 1.5-inch wide pipe while as per rules no one can put more than 0.5 inch wide pipe. Before this, even last week the team had disconnected four water connections of the residents of Sarabha Nagar-A block which were also having damaged pipes and hence leakage was being reported from these pipes.
Executive Engineer Manjit Singh said, “He will have to apply afresh for water connection and will have to deposit the fee again. Only pipe of 0.5 depth will be allowed and not beyond that. For more water requirement, he will have to make his own arrangements.”
He said, “The residents should get their private connection pipes changed after every 15 years, because the average life of these pipes is not more than that. In 99% of the cases, poor condition of pipes is the reason for water contamination and the same happened here as well.”
