Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA) is planning to come up with a database of available industrial plots in Pune to help investors locate land easily.
“We are getting enquiries about the availability of industrial land from foreign companies as well as from companies from other parts of the country.
The idea is to provide them with the information so that they can start their operation without waiting for long,” said Anand Sardeshmukh, additional director general, MCCIA. With the database MCCIA will facilitate the meeting of prospective buyer and seller. “There are investors who wants to buy land without waiting for long to start their operations and going through the processes of Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation will take some time. For them such a database will benefit immensely,” he said. Chakan, Talegaon, Hinjewadi and Magarpatta tops the list of the destinations that the prospective investors are looking at and recently many Indian as well as foreign companies had started their operation in these areas.
“We have appealed to people who own plot to provide the information to us and this would be compiled together. Basic information about the land will be given in the MCCIA website. The economic slowdown has not affected the inflow of investors to Pune,” he said
The key areas that the investors are interested are engineering, automotive and information technology industry. Speaking about the new players coming in the IT industry Deepak Shikarpur chairman of the MCCIA IT sub committee said that compared to engineering and automotive industry IT players always look at readymade infrastructure facility. “ In Pune we have land and infrastructure facility available in Hinjewadi, Magarpatta and so on. IT industry always looks to move in fast. IT and BPO industry are employee driven and they give priority to good connectivity and infrastructure. Two years back Microsoft approached MCCIA with a long term project in Pune and we connected them to MIDC,” said Shikarpur. He said that MCCIA would direct all IT companies to such locations were infrastructure facilities are already available. Out of the Rs 72,000 crores investment that the state got in the 2005-08 period a large chunk, amounting to Rs 45,000 crore, came to Pune.
