MCD moves against 34 illegal structures

Intensifying its drive against illegal structures,the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Thursday took action against as many as 34 structures in areas across the West zone,Civil Lines zone and Rohini zone. In most of the cases,property owners had built additional floors without taking permission from the civic body.

Sealing and demolition activities were undertaken in areas such as New Moti Nagar,Karam Pura,Rajouri Garden,Raghubir Nagar,Tagore Garden Extension,Ramesh Nagar,Hari Nagar,Nangloi,Uttam Nagar,Vikaspuri,Janakpuri,Kashmere Gate and Vishkarma Colony. The civic body went on a demolition spree after an illegal structure collapsed in East Delhi in November last year,killing 71 people. A four-storeyed under-construction building also collapsed in an unauthorised colony in Northwest Delhi on Tuesday,killing two. A probe has been ordered.
