MCD not to recruit new staff to replace ‘ghost’ employees

Delhi Mayor Kanwar Sain today said the MCD will not recruit new staff to replace the 22,853 ‘ghost’ employees found on its payrolls.

Delhi Mayor Kanwar Sain today said the MCD will not recruit new staff to replace the 22,853 ‘ghost’ employees found on its payrolls.

The scam involving ‘ghost’ employees, which was causing the civic agency a loss of Rs 204 crore per year, came to light yesterday after an internal inquiry was conducted by the municipal commissioner based on the records from the newly initiated biometric system of attendance.

“There is no question of recruiting new staff in place of those employees as our work is going on fine without them,” Sain told PTI.

He,however, admitted that names and designations of all such employees are yet to be known.

Leader of MCD House Subhash Arya said the MCD is starting biometric system for daily wagers too and may also introduce the same for the 24,682 employees of the Education Department soon.
