The MCD on Tuesday said it would issue a showcause notice to Shri Ram School for its decision to raise fees to pay arrears to teachers in accordance with the Sixth Pay Commissions recommendations. The school now faces derecognition in case the MCD is not satisfied with its reply, officials said.
Newsline had reported that the school had sent circulars to parents, informing them of a 30-per cent hike in fees. As per the circular, the parents were to pay a sum of about Rs 23,000 in three installments to clear the backlog of arrears.
The school had contended that the institutions senior wing was in Gurgaon and was thus covered under education laws of Haryana instead of the Delhi Education Act. But the schools junior wing is in Vasant Vihar and is under the jurisdiction of MCD. The junior school provides education to children from Nursery to Class V.
MCD Standing Committee Chairman Vijender Gupta today said the media report was enough evidence for them to issue a showcause notice to the school. We will also discuss the issue in a Standing Committee meeting tomorrow, Gupta said. This is a wrong move as the S C Bansal Committee report is currently being studied by the Directorate of Education. Let the government decide on the fee hike they can raise fees only after that.
The circular dated January 16 said the school needed the funds to clear its arrears. A parent whose son goes to the schools Vasant Vihar branch said she was worried over the hike. This is way too much, she said.
Shri Ram School chairperson Manju Bharatram had previously said a letter to this effect was sent to the MCD. But Gupta denied receiving any such letter.
