MCD to deploy private personnel at hospitals

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has decided to deploy private security personnel at all its hospitals and healthcare units.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has decided to deploy private security personnel at all its hospitals and healthcare units. The plan was approved at the MCD Standing Committee meeting on Wednesday.

The decision,Dr V K Monga,Chairperson of MCD Health Committee, said was taken after noting the lack of security at most MCD health units. “The current security system is not very effective and not at all at par with private hospitals, hence we thought of introducing private players,” Dr Monga said. “A private security system will give us more value for money,it is more responsible and has greater accountability,” he added. The MCD has already deployed private security personnel at the Bara Hindu Rao and Swami Dayanad hospitals.

“With no watchmen or security guards around, thefts have become a regular feature at MCD hospitals. There have been instances where the family members of patients have manhandled doctors. Hospital equipment has also been stolen on several occasions. Thousands of patients come to these hospitals. It is important to ensure their safety,” Dr Monga said.
