MCM College student stabbed to death by lover

The police said Maninder,a Chandigarh resident,left for Karnal on his motorcycle and took Renu to the lake,where he allegedly stabbed her in the neck and chest.

After the incident,he tried to flee but was nabbed by passersby,who handed him over to the police.

Renu,who sustained serious injuries,succumbed in the local hospital.

The victim hails from Una in Himchal Pradesh. She had gone to Karnal to pursue her training in the National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI),the police said. She was staying as a paying guest in Karnal.

Maninder,a mechanical engineer,had an affair with Renu for the last many months,the police said.

While the motive of the crime has not been established,the police hinted at the love affair going awry.
