Top Indian officials, including foreign secretary Ranjan Mathai, were dazzled with the hotel where the media delegation was staying during the ASEAN summit in Phnom Penh. The ground floor of the hotel had one of the biggest casinos in the Cambodian capital. Walking in for a briefing, Mathai admired the hotel while MEA's Secretary (West) Sanjay Singh, who came a bit later, too was equally impressed with what he saw. In contrast, the Prime Minister and his official entourage were staying in a relatively modest hotel. The reason? South Block pointed towards the Cambodian hosts who had allotted hotels to each country.
New security ED for Air India
Air India appointed senior IPS officer BK Maurya as its new executive director (security) on Friday. Until now, Maurya was serving as an Inspector General with ITBP. Maurya's order came on the same day as his boss Ranjit Sinha was appointed CBI director. Maurya, who is from the 1990-batch of Uttar Pradesh cadre, will hold the post for two years. The post of ED (security) is said to be one of the coveted postings in the aviation sector.
Speaking from 'royal' experience
Many political developments may have overtaken Ram Jethmalani's recent remarks on Lord Ram, but they continue to evoke animated debates among politicians. During one such discussion, when Bihar Congress leader Chandan Bagchi was holding forth at the Central Hall of Parliament, former union minister Bhanu Prakash Singh came up with the argument that a king must not be rated on how he fares as a husband, father or son. As Bagchi objected, Singh sought to wind up the debate, saying: "I have been a Raja, and therefore, I know what being a Raja means." Singh, comes from the erstwhile princely state of Narsinghgarh (Madhya Pradesh). No one said anything after that.
